A mais recente edição da revista inglesa Kerrang trouxe como destaque uma matéria listando os 51 melhores discos de pop punk de todos os tempos. A seleção feita pelos editores traz uma visão mais atualizada dos álbuns influentes do gênero.
Repetindo alguns clichês e surpreendendo na escolha de alguns, a lista traz discos que indiretamente também influenciaram o estilo. Por exemplo Energy do Operation Ivy e 24 Hour Revenge Therapy do Jawbreaker.
O topo da lista é pouco surpreende em relação a inúmeras outras matérias com a mesma proposta. Enema of the State do blink-182, Dookie do Green Day e Stick and Stones do New Found Glory ficaram nas três primeiras colocações respectivamente.
A Kerrang não esqueceu de clássicos do estilo, como o disco de estreia do Ramones, Milo Goes to College do Descendents, Smash do Offspring e Punk In Dublic do NOFX.
E como eu disse anteriormente, a lista dá espaço para as bandas mais atuais. Suburbia I’ve Given You All and Now I’m Nothing do The Wonder Years, Life’s Not Out To Get You do Neck Deep e The Finer Things do State Champs são citados pelos editores.
